International Clinical Trials Day 2019
20th May 2019
Monday 20 May marks International Clinical Trials Day, celebrating the first randomised clinical trial conducted in May 1747 by Scottish physician James Lind
More than 265 years later, clinical research is a cornerstone of person-centred healthcare across Scotland and is made possible thanks to the support and commitment of patients and the public working in partnership with researchers and healthcare professionals.
More than 30,000 Scottish patients have taken part in trials over the last 12 months and we are committed to attracting and delivering more research in Scotland, ultimately leading to improved treatment options and better outcomes for patients.
We thank all patients, researchers, healthcare professionals and partners who contribute to a thriving research environment in Scotland.
