Leader in pioneering Scottish cardiovascular research highly commended at Scottish Women’s Awards

A senior figure in Scotland’s research landscape was ‘highly commended’ in the Services to Medicine category of the Scottish Women’s Awards last week
Professor Lis Neubeck, Cardiovascular Clinical Network Lead at NHS Research Scotland (NRS) was named a finalist for her twin roles at Edinburgh Napier University – as Professor of Cardiovascular Health in the School of Health and Social Care and Head of the university’s Centre for Cardiovascular Health Research.
The awards ceremony, organised by Oceanic Events and held at Glasgow Marriott Hotel, took place on Saturday, “recognising and celebrating the remarkable women who are redefining excellence in their respective domains.”
Professor Neubeck was among nominees – including winner of the Services to Medicine category, oncology expert Ioanna Nixon from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde – who had “left an indelible mark on their respective industries, setting new standards of excellence, and driving positive change.”
Lis said: “I believe that research which identifies and heightens access to innovative solutions for the prevention of cardiovascular disease represents one of the key goals for Scottish healthcare.
“It is of course personally humbling to receive acknowledgement of my drive to make a positive difference in that area, which is both my work and my passion. To be highly commended among so many inspiring women is an honour.
“It’s fantastic that the SWAs are purely about your ability to deliver in your respective sector, and I was proud to be part of it.”
The evening featured keynote speeches and opportunities to learn from some of Scotland’s most accomplished women.
Cardiovascular Champion Support Manager at NRS, Mary McAuley said: “It is a privilege to work with Lis – her work is making a really positive difference, changing lives and communities for the better. It is constantly inspiring to be part of that and I hope her example and application serves to show future generations just what they can go on to achieve in vital areas of Scottish healthcare.”

The finalists were drawn from a wide spectrum of sectors, including business, academia, charity, and technology.
