Avril Donaldson
North Node Research Nurse
Avril joined the Primary Care Network as Research Nurse for the North Node in May 2024. Avril facilitates research in Primary Care settings across NHS Highland.
Avril has been employed as a Clinical Research Nurse in NHS Highland since 2009, initially to manage and successfully deliver three consecutive Primary Care Research Trials Sponsored by the University of Dundee and subsequently leading and collaborating on a selection of academic and commercial Research Trials in numerous clinical areas, mainly in Secondary Care.
Avril completed her nurse training in NHS Lothian in 1988 and Midwifery training in 1990. Following a period of employment as a Staff Nurse and then Staff Midwife at the Belford Hospital in Fort William, she moved to Primary Care in Ardnamurchan in 1997 and was employed as a double duty remote and rural Community Nurse/Midwife, Practice Nurse and Nurse Practitioner with NHS 24.
Her interest in Research began in 2001 when she was employed by the medical Research Council to work on a large academic Women's Health study in parallel with her Practice Nurse role, this led her to pursue a career in Research Nursing when she moved to Inverness in 2009.
Avril is delighted to join the Primary Care Team in 2024 and feels really privileged to be collaborating with patients and Primary Care providers once again.
