Prof Jeff Evans

Professor Jeff Evans is Professor of Translational Cancer Research, School of Cancer Sciences, University of Glasgow; Honorary Consultant in Medical Oncology, Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, Glasgow; Lead of the Glasgow Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre (ECMC); and National Clinical Lead, NHS Research Scotland Cancer Research Network.

His initial medical training was at St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School, University of London and he trained in Medical Oncology at Charing Cross Hospital Medical School and St George’s Hospital Medical School, London.

His research interests are in the pre-clinical and clinical development of novel anti-cancer agents and he leads the Phase I trials & drug development team in Glasgow. He is Chief Investigator of clinical trials in HCC, gastro-oesophageal, and pancreatic cancers, and in melanoma. He is an author on over 200 publications.

He is a member of the Gastro-Oesophageal Cancer sub-group and of the Pancreatic Cancer sub-group of the NCRI Upper GI Cancers study group, member of the ILCA Annual Meeting Abstract Committee, former member of CR-UK’s Clinical Experts Review Panel, CR-UK’s New Agents Committee, and Feasibility Studies Committee, and he is Editor-in-Chief of the British Journal of Cancer.

 

Nodal Clinical Leads

 

West: Iain MacPherson

Dr Iain Macpherson trained in medicine at the University of Glasgow.  After graduating he then completed a PhD at the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research and trained in Medical Oncology at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. In 2010 he was appointed Clinical Senior Lecturer in the Institute of Cancer Sciences, University of Glasgow and Honorary Consultant in Medical Oncology at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre where he specialises in the treatment of breast cancer.

He is Principal Investigator for a number of clinical trials in breast cancer and also has an active preclinical research programme, conducted in collaboration with Prof Jim Norman at the CRUK Beatson Institute. He is Chair of the Scottish Cancer Trials Breast Group, and is a member of the NCRI Breast Clinical Studies Group and the Breast Cancer Now Scientific Advisory Board. He is also an expert member of the West of Scotland Research Ethics Committee.

 

South East: Ewan Brown

Dr Ewan Brown undertook his medical oncology training in Edinburgh, completed a clinical fellowship in Toronto, Canada and then completed a PhD with the University of Edinburgh. He is currently clinical lead for oncology trials at the Edinburgh Cancer Centre and local principal investigator for several clinical trials in colorectal cancer and melanoma. His major ongoing interests include clinical and translational research in melanoma and colorectal cancer, on-line education and the development of a cancer partnership with Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, Malawi. His work is supported by a National Research Scotland (NRS) Career Researcher Award (2013-2018) and a Scottish Government Grant (2013-2018).

 

East: Ghulam Nabi

Clinical academic in urology trained in Surgery and Urology in India, East of Scotland Training Programme in Urology, France and Germany.  Previously Clinical Lecturer at the University of Aberdeen, Professor Nabi was appointed to Chair in October 2015.  Besides heading the academic section of Urology at the University of Dundee, Professor Nabi is lead for prostate cancer Surgery in Tayside and chair of Tayside Urological Cancers Network.  He introduced a number of minimally invasive surgical techniques for Tayside including laparoscopic surgery in prostate cancer, single port surgery and cryoablation for renal cancers.  Professor Nabi is both a chief investigator and a principal investigator for urological cancers.
